These fellowships take place in many different countries (Germany, India, United States, Egypt, and others) and cover various specialties and operating procedures. The selected candidates travel for periods of two weeks up to one year and are able to develop their skills through observations and operations alongside renowned orthopaedic surgeons.

Please check if the call for applications is open before sending your application. Only one application to one fellowship per year is allowed. 

Any member applying for a Fellowship must be in good standing (with membership dues paid) for at least the previous two years. Applicants not meeting this criteria will not be eligible.

SICOT members who have already received any of the SICOT fellowships this year and last year should not apply for any Fellowship Programme.

Application for a SICOT Fellowship

Any SICOT member can apply to start a fellowship at their hospital/institution. For this, the fellowship coordinator must be a SICOT member with yearly dues paid. The Fellowship program must provide some sponsorship for the fellow (free accommodation, stipend,…).
For any applications, the following documents must be sent back to the SICOT Fellowships Secretariat ([email protected])
1. The application form must be filled in
2. A recommendation letter from the country SICOT National Representative or from the SICOT Regional Vice-President
3. A recommendation letter from the country local Orthopaedics Assocation.
Once these documents have been received, the SICOT Fellowships Committee will review the application. The candidate will then be invited to attend the next SICOT Fellowships Committee conference call to make a brief 5 minutes presentation of the fellowship and answer any questions.

 

Alexandria/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT will offer two surgeons a six-month fellowship to Hadra Orthopaedic and Traumatology University Hospital, in Alexandria (Egypt). The Spine unit is an AOSpine-recognized unit for short-term fellowships. The purpose of the fellowship is to receive training in different specialized departments. The candidate will choose between one or two departments. These include arthroplasty, arthroscopic surgery, spinal surgery, paediatric surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, and orthopaedic oncology. The training programme will start in January and July of each year.

AO Hospital/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT will offer two surgeons a six-week to three-month fellowship at the AO Hospital Private Ltd, located in Karachi (Pakistan). The purpose of this fellowship will be to offer the fellow an opportunity to get involved in sports surgery, knee arthroplasty and if felt appropriate involvement in other specialties within AO hospital.

Casablanca University/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers two surgeons a six-month fellowship to the Orthopaedic and Traumatology University Hospital, P32, in Casablanca (Morocco). The accommodation will be provided for by Casablanca Orthopaedic and Traumatology University Department. One return economy airfare between the fellow’s home country and Casablanca (Morocco) will be covered by SICOT up to EUR 1,000 (economy ticket only).

CEOT/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers one surgeon a three-month to one year fellowship to the CEOT (Center Specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology) at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Cascavel (Paranà, South Brazil). The FAG University Medical School is one of the most respected colleges in Parana (Brazil). The University Hospital is the St. Luke's Hospital and Research Hospital. The Orthopaedic Surgery Department is commanded by CEOT (Specialized Center for Orthopedics and Traumatology), that is a respected clinic covering all Orthopaedics subspecialties. The Orthopaedics staff (18 surgeons) performs about 2500 elective/emergency surgeries per year in all fields of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, including Arthroplasty Division primary and revision, Arthroscopy and advanced procedures.

CTEA/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT will offer one surgeon a one-year fellowship to the CTEA (Parana, South Brazil). The fellow will do surgeries and scrub in public and private hospitals and so he/she will see high technologies and will be exposed to several Orthopaedics Subspecialties. The fellowship will mainly provide degenerative and sports knee training.

Erfan Niyayesh Hospital/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT will offer four surgeons a six-month fellowship to the Erfan Niyayesh Hospital (Tehran, Iran) in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. The fellows will be able to scrub.

The Erfan group hospitals consist of two private hospitals (Erfan and Erfan Niayesh hospitals) and clinics and do over 1500 orthopaedic procedures yearly which includes full range of Orthopaedic procedures including joint replacement, upper limb, foot and ankle surgery, many complex total hip replacement, revision total hip and knee, DDH Crowe type 3-4 total hip replacement.

Hiranandani Orthopaedic Medical Education Fellowship (closed)

Hiranandani Orthopaedic Medical Education (HOME) is a department that is dedicated to the field of clinical research in Orthopaedics. HOME is working on a number of projects related to clinical research in adult hip and knee surgery. HOME conducted its first workshop on scientific publication (WOSP) in December 2009, in collaboration with the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (British Volume). A number of scientific meetings have also been planned for the future. Research Fellowships, in adult hip and knee surgery, are offered by HOME.

SAANVI Orthopaedics/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Every year, SICOT offers one surgeon a one year fellowship to SAANVI Orthopaedics located in Mumbai (India) in Hip & Knee replacement.

SAANVI Orthopaedics Mumbai, India is an Orthopaedic unit that is dedicated to the field of clinical research in Orthopaedics. SAANVI is working on several projects related to clinical research in adult hip and knee surgery. A number of scientific meetings have also been planned for the future.
